Darin Duffy
Darin bought his 96 hectare farm in 1996 with a plan to grow tea tree, and planted his first trees in 1998.
Darin is from a farming background, and was in Western New South Wales for a number of years before moving closer to the coast. He now lives on his farm on the Bungawalbin creek, south of Coraki.
He currently has 32 hectares under tea tree, with plans to expand in the future.
Darin has been impressed with the industry support provided by the Australian Tea Tree Industry Association, and the support of other farmers in sharing information and best farming practices with one another. When considering what he likes about tea tree, he focuses on the technical benefits it holds as a crop. For example, the fact that it is grown in rows allows for precision agriculture, and the fact that it is a permanent plantation means that he doesn’t have to stress about planting every year.
